The influential role of music in the history of the church is the basis for our strong commitment to both choral and instrumental music. We are thankful for our long tradition of musical excellence. Whether you participate as a listener or a performer, we invite you to share in the blessing of music.
The Hartley Memorial Pipe Organ, a centerpiece of the music department, began as a Moeller organ used in our downtown location. It was refurbished, updated, and expanded by the Darrow Organ Company for installation in our new building in 2003. Jeri Manning serves as our organist and the accompanist for the Chancel Choir.
First Baptist had an orchestra during the 1920's and this legacy of
instrumental music continues in our Instrumental Ensemble and our Hand Bell Choir which is directed by Angie Loney.
The Childrens Choir, directed by Susie Langwith, is a vital part of our children's ministry and Wednesday night activities.
First Baptist's Fine Arts Concert Series serves as a special community outreach. It features both local and national guest artists, as well as our own musicians. Annually we present two concerts featuring our church musicians under the direction of BenHolthaus. In "First Baptist on Broadway" our choir and ensemble present a light-hearted tribute to Broadway musicals. "Thanksgiving for Christmas" features Christmas classics and popular holiday music.
