At First Baptist Church (FBC) our focus is missions. In the 1980’s God inspired Elsie Mason, a longtime pastoral assistant, and other congregational leaders to build Elsie Mason Manor and Ligutti Tower. These facilities, located in downtown Des Moines, provide affordable housing to 289 qualified low-income seniors and people with disabilities. FBC continues to oversee the management of these facilities.
The congregation of First Baptist Church also supports numerous community and American Baptist Ministries. We maintain a strong tradition of generous, spontaneous giving as needs and emergencies arise locally, nationally, and internationally. Below is a list of some of the mission programs supported by FBC.
- Beacon of Life Shelter for Women
- Campus Crusade for Christ
- Children and Family Urban Ministry
- Des Moines Area Religious Council
- Heifer Project
- Oakridge Neighborhood
- Partnership for a Healthy Community and the Johnston Partnership
First Baptist Church also is a member of the Johnston Chamber of Commerce. We believe it is important to be involved in and contribute to the needs and growth of the Johnston Community.
